Getting to know 5th Edition
Following the devastation of the Earthbreaker War and the collapse of the kingdoms and treaties that used to protect the passes through the Ice Mounts to the Ice Lands, there was little resistance when the savage races of the north banded together to form a massive army that flooded into Stoneshore. Though some cities, such as Lundy and Whiteridge were able to withstand the assault, the fractured forces of the north couldn't repel the invaders like they had in years before. Several of the smaller towns and cities were overrun, the people butchered or enslaved. After a year of this, Memmin sent a large army northwards to repel the invaders. At first the Grassland Barons welcomed the aid, but then began to fear that, after the war that Memmin would demand their allegiance in return for their aid. As such, many of the smaller militias either began to withdraw from the fighting to fortify their own lands or to actively work to hinder the southern forces. However, the southern army managed to defeat the savage races even despite these problems and then returned home, surprising the local leaders by not claiming the fractured northlands as their own or demanding payment for their aid. When asked, the king of Memmin said that Turo does not approve of such things, so his forces were told to help, then leave. This has greatly improved the scattered northlands' impression of the new kingdom and many now eagerly welcome traders and emissaries from there.
